NICARAGUA: Opposition ends speculation

Bar the dissident Movimiento de Renovaciόn Sandinista (MRS), the Nicaraguan opposition will compete in the upcoming 4 November municipal elections, despite earlier threats to boycott the process over transparency concerns and despite the fact that President Daniel Ortega’s government has failed to implement many of the key recommendations made by international election observer missions after the November 2011 general elections – in particular those relating to the highly questioned supreme electoral court (CSE).
