Last month President Ricardo Martinelli was forced into a mini cabinet reshuffle after the resignation of his number two, the minister of the presidency, Jimmy Papadimitriu, who stepped down over a land titling scandal. The departure of one of Martinelli’s closest allies once again raised concerns over official corruption. Martinelli’s reshuffle comes as the opposition Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD), traditionally Panama’s biggest party, has signalled an overhauling of its leadership ahead of the 2014 general election.
