COLOMBIA: Can peace be reached amid war?

While the Colombian armed forces confirmed the killing of ‘Danilo García’ (José Epimenio Molina) and up to 15 other Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrillas in a joint police, army and air force operation in the border department of Norte de Santander, the Farc representatives in Havana, Cuba, unveiled the first members of its official negotiating team. The fact that the announcement came despite the killing served as an indication that the peace process will continue outside Colombia, while inside the country war prevails. This triggered numerous opinion pieces in the local media in which various experts asked themselves whether peace can be successful while the war continues.
