A Chinese business delegation paid a trip to Nicaragua last month, resulting in substantial pledges of cooperation for the construction of Central America’s first ever satellite as well as Nicaragua’s Great Canal, an initiative recently revived by the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) government of President Daniel Ortega. The visit serves as the latest sign that, despite the fact that Nicaragua has, along with its Central American neighbours (bar Costa Rica) yet to switch its diplomatic ties from Taiwan to China, trade and investment cooperation continues to strengthen.
