Morales achieves the first reduction of coca cultivation since taking office

For the first time since 2006, Bolivia has achieved a net reduction of the area devoted to coca cultivation, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). This finding came only three days after US President Barack Obama had issued the annual ‘determination’ on drug transit and producing countries, in which Bolivia is condemned for having failed to prevent the diversion of coca to drug production. Once again Bolivia's President Evo Morales has rejected ‘decertification’ by the US, and has urged coca producers to sue anyone accusing them of being drug traffickers.
