“The greatest war is against inequality and poverty,” Uruguay’s President José Mujica said while delivering the inaugural speech at the tenth biennial conference of defence ministers of the Americas (CDMA), held in Punta Del Este, Uruguay from 8 to 11 October. “We have to stage meetings between defence ministers to concern ourselves with peace… I never imagined I would inaugurate a meeting of this sort,” Mujica, a former Tupamaro guerrilla, mused.
