COLOMBIA: Farc seeks broader role for public in talks

Even before the second round of talks between the government of President Juan Manuel Santos and the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrillas got under way, the Farc made its boldest move so far in terms of taking the process beyond the negotiating table and into the broader political arena. It made a public call to “mobilization” in order to secure a more decisive role for the public at large. The government is trying to keep the situation firmly within the agreed framework.
