UK overtakes Brazil

Despite stumbling along since the 2008 global economic crisis struck, the United Kingdom has managed to recover from Brazil its position as the world’s sixth largest economy (in nominal US$ terms), following a below par performance by Brazil last year. Indeed, according to the latest consensus estimate compiled by the Brazilian central bank, the economy barely registered any growth at all in 2012, with a real GDP result of just 0.98% year-on-year. This despite full employment and myriad government stimulus packages, including tax incentives and temporary protectionist measures.
