CHILE | Fine fettle. For the second straight year the economy has grown faster than public spending, the finance minister, Felipe Larraín, announced last week. Public spending increased by 5% while GDP expanded by 5.5%, according to Larraín. He said the figures had been released concurrently to inform the market more accurately about the real state of affairs in Chile, and in advance because analysts have been maintaining that public spending grew by some 7%.
