MEXICO | Ortiz. The Bank for International Settlements, the central banks' central bank, appointed Guillermo Ortiz, the governor of the Banco de México, on 13 January, to be its chairman for the next three years. What is interesting is that Ortiz's current term as governor of the Banco de México expires at the end of this year. Ortiz's acceptance is widely seen as a challenge to President Calderón who has notoriously poor relations with him.
