FOREIGN POLICY: The Snowden fallout - Correa ‘rejects’ Atpdea

Domestic and international media attention in June was focused on whether President Correa would grant asylum to the former US National Security Agency (NSA) contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden. In the face of threats emanating from the US Congress about terminating trade preferences conferred on Ecuador under the Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act (Atpdea), Correa announced that he was withdrawing from the accord on principle.
