HONDURAS: Lobo seeks silver lining

President Porfirio Lobo has celebrated as “historic” figures showing that there have been nine days in 2013 when no murders were committed in Tegucigalpa. Lobo attributed the improvement to the government’s ongoing purge of the police and the participation of the armed forces in security patrols. Average murder figures suggest this claim is misleading, however, and Lobo came in for an avalanche of criticism on social networking sites where he was accused of “living with Alice in Wonderland” and “reading the Swiss national papers as if they were Honduran”.
