COLOMBIA | Surge in coffee exports. Coffee exports increased by 58% year-on-year in August, amounting to 920,000 60-kg sacks, the head of Colombia’s national coffee growers’ federation (FNC), Luis Genaro Muñoz, revealed this week. The result is surprising given that since mid-August Colombia’s rural sector, led by small-scale coffee producers, has been on a nationwide strike in demand of greater economic assistance from the national government.
