ECONOMY & POLITICS: Looking to fulfil rural sector demands

After diffusing the national protests lead by Colombia’s rural sector in June and August [RA-13-07] by making a series of significant concessions, the government led by President Juan Manuel Santos is now faced with the difficult task of having to deliver on its promises without breaking the bank or jeopardising Colombia’s hard-earned fiscal stability. This could be a major challenge for the Santos administration as it finalises the 2014 budget ahead of next year’s first half (March and May) congressional and presidential elections.
