Report issues warning about new ‘light footprint’ US activities

Latin America is about to experience an increase in a new type of US military and security assistance — a ‘light footprint’ variety — even as total US aid and big-ticket security assistance continue to decline. This is the prediction of a report just released by three US-based thinktanks that specialise in the region’s affairs. The military, according to the report, will play an important role in this development.
