Reaction to NSA spying grows stronger. The publication by the German magazine
Der Spiegel on 20 October of new revelations about US electronic surveillance of Mexican targets has elicited a far stronger reaction from the administration of President Enrique Peña Nieto than the earlier reports.
Der Spiegel reported that under an operation codenamed Flat Liquid, the US had been tapping into a Mexican presidency server that handled former President Felipe Calderón (2006-2012)’s messages, as well as traffic from members of his cabinet on diplomatic and economic affairs. As in previous instances, an NSA presentation said that it had successfully exploited this source.
