BRAZIL: São Paulo municipal corruption widens

The gang accused of diverting around R$500m (US$250m) from São Paulo’s municipal coffers through falsifying receipts on the city’s service tax (ISS) is now suspected of manipulating the urban building and land tax (IPTU) to shield new property developments from tax. São Paulo state’s public ministry (MPE) is now seeking international assistance to trace the stolen money, much of which is believed to have been deposited overseas, principally in the US.
