President Daniel Ortega’s detractors are again invoking comparisons with former dictator, Anastasio Somoza Debayle (1967-1972; 1974-1979). Last month Ortega unveiled a proposed constitutional reform which would significantly bolster the role of the military, further concentrate power in the hands of the executive and most likely remove the limits on indefinite presidential re-election.
