CUBA: What to do about Alan Gross?

"Why am I still here? With the utmost respect, Mr. President, I fear that my government - the very government I was serving when I began this nightmare - has abandoned me," the imprisoned US Agency for International Development (USAID) subcontractor Alan Gross wrote to President Barack Obama in a letter dated 3 December, marking the fourth anniversary of his detention in Havana, Cuba. Back in the US, Gross’s wife, family and supporters held vigils to press both governments to act in favour of his release.
