EU-Centam deal finally takes effect

On 1 December Guatemala became the sixth and final Central American country where the Association Agreement with the European Union (EU) entered into force. This takes place two months after the deal, inked at the end of June 2012 to replace the unilateral preferential access to the EU market granted to Central America under the EU’s General Scheme of Preferences, took effect in Costa Rica and El Salvador and four months after it entered into force in Panama, Honduras and Nicaragua.
