MEXICO | New bid to determine the fate of the disappeared. The office of the federal procurator-general (PGR) has taken over from the Procuraduría Social de Víctimas de Delitos (Províctima) the task of finding out what has happened to at least 2,299 persons who have been listed as disappeared or ‘not located’. Since Províctima was created in 2011, it set in motion 1,815 investigations into reports of disappearances (some of them involving more than one person).
