COLOMBIA: Appraisal of Farc’s post-truce situation

The Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc)’s month-long unilateral Christmas truce was largely observed — and only one of the units thought to oppose the peace talks was among those who breached it. Measured by the number of actions carried out by the Farc, the intensity of the conflict did not vary greatly in 2013, but its nature confirmed that both sides have continued to develop their new strategies. Open to question is the Farc’s actual current strength.
