POINTERS

HONDURAS | Shootdown law approved. On 17 January the Honduran legislature approved (by 80 votes in a session only attended by 81 legislators) a law that establishes an ‘aerial exclusion zone’ in the departments of Olancho, Colón and Gracias a Dios, where the air force will be able to interdict and even shoot down suspect aircraft. The exclusion zone will be in force between 18:00 and 06:00, between which times aircraft will only be able to operate above 18,000 feet and at speed that do not exceed 300 knots. The order to use force may only be given by the defence minister.
