Mexico’s centre-right opposition Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) is preparing to hold its national party convention, at which it will elect a new party leadership, in May. The contest is shaping up to be highly contested, with two distinct factions locked in a bitter and increasingly divisive battle to take control of the party leadership. The outcome of this internal contest could have significant consequences for the executive led by President Enrique Peña Nieto, which to date has been able to count on the PAN as a political ally in congress.
