COLOMBIA: Farc rallies behind Santos

The conditions for a stable and lasting peace accord have never been so favourable, the ‘foreign minister’ of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) and part of the negotiating team in Cuba, ‘Rodrigo Granda’ (Ricardo Téllez) said at the weekend. Granda’s remarks come as Óscar Iván Zuluaga, the presidential candidate for Centro Democrático (CD), the party of former president Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010), is intensifying his attacks on the government of President Juan Manuel Santos ahead of presidential elections on 25 May. Zuluaga accuses Santos of offering impunity to Farc leaders. This prompted an intriguing response from ‘Andrés París’ (Jesús Emilio Carvajalino), another Farc negotiator in Havana.
