The body of Douglas Rafael Da Silva Pereira, a dancer from the Pavão-Pavãozinho favela of Rio de Janeiro, was found in a school building on the afternoon of 22 April. Initial police reports claimed there were no marks on his body and he appeared to have died after a fall. Residents of the favela, located between Copacabana and Ipanema, refused to believe the official version of his death. Later in the evening a riot broke out, resulting in an exchange of gunfire between police and residents of the pacified favela.
