POLITICS & SECURITY: Final territorial dispute resolved

Ecuador and Costa Rica have celebrated the signing of an accord demarcating their maritime border after 29 years of talks. The maritime treaty, which was signed in a special meeting in Quito on 21 April by the foreign ministers of Ecuador and Costa Rica, Ricardo Patiño and Enrique Castillo respectively, is of particular significance for Ecuador as it marks the first time in the country’s history that it has no existing territorial disputes.
