PERU: Government swoops on Movadef

After more than two years of trying, the government of President Ollanta Humala claims to have found enough evidence to charge the leaders of the Movimiento por la Amnistía y Derechos Fundamentales (Movadef) with membership of a terrorist organisation, namely Sendero Luminoso (SL) and financing terrorism with revenues from drug trafficking. A national penal court issued warrants for the arrest of 34 persons, and all but six were soon captured. Questions have already arisen about the evidence, after one key piece leaked to a newspaper was shown to have been a fabrication.
