Political shakeup in Michoacán

After months of doubts about his capacity to steer the state of Michoacán through an acute political, financial and security crisis, Governor Fausto Vallejo Figueroa formally resigned on 19 June. Vallejo was replaced by Salvador Jara Guerrero, appointed as interim governor pending scheduled gubernatorial elections in the state next year. Jara, well respected but politically inexperienced, now has the difficult task of restoring stability, in order to ensure a smooth transition next year.
