TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: Constitutional controversy

Trinidad & Tobago’s People’s Partnership (PP) government led by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is entering its final year in office, with elections due by September 2015. In preparation for this contest, the prime minister has been pushing through controversial constitutional changes, including provisions for runoff elections in constituencies where the winner has not received 50% of the vote.
