The Andean countries have registered significant progress in their efforts to improve food security, according to the latest annual State of Food Insecurity in the World report (SOFI 2014), released on 16 September by the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The report noted that Peru and Venezuela have both reached the first of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) agreed at the UN Millennium Summit of 2000 – halving the proportion of undernourished people.
