COLOMBIA-VENEZUELA: Two deportations and claims of a new conspiracy

The government of President Juan Manuel Santos came in for heavy criticism over its decision to repatriate two members of a Venezuelan opposition organisation and hand them over to the Venezuelan authorities, who promptly arrested them and announced that they would be prosecuted. Initial explanations on both sides were unconvincing; later developments suggest that there was substance to at least one of the conspiracies claimed by Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro.
