Growing interest in trade with China

At the end of September delegations of government and private sector officials from El Salvador and China met for their first ever trade discussions at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Days earlier, Guatemala hosted a Guatemala-China trade fair. Both events indicate ever growing interest among Central American countries in trading with mainland China, despite the fact that so far Costa Rica is the only country in the sub-region to have switched diplomatic allegiance from Taipei to Beijing.
