CUBA: Cuba, the US and Ebola

Unexpectedly or not, Cuba’s generous frontline humanitarian response to the unprecedented Ebola crisis in West Africa has been PR gold for the country, winning it particular plaudits in the US. There is cautious optimism in Havana that its efforts – which involve Cuban medical teams working alongside US colleagues in the field – might generate some political goodwill towards the country and possibly give some impetus to the stop-start efforts to revive low level political dialogue. As the long build-up to the 2016 US presidential election begins, leading US media continue to generate debate about US policy towards Cuba.
