PRD in the eye of the storm

Federal and state authorities have borne the brunt of public indignation over the disappearance of trainee students from Iguala in the state of Guerrero, but at a party political level the tragic incident has done by far the most serious damage to the image of the left-wing Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD). It has been a baptism of fire for Carlos Navarrete Ruiz, who was elected as president of the PRD in the midst of unfolding events in Iguala - and has looked unequal to the task.
