Tabaré Vázquez will return for a second stint as president of Uruguay on 1 March 2015. Vázquez comfortably defeated Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou, of the opposition Partido Nacional (PN, Blancos), in a second round run-off on 30 November. Vázquez will enjoy the same wafer-thin majorities in both chambers of congress that the ruling left-wing Frente Amplio (FA) coalition has provided for President José Mujica. Despite the ease of his victory, Vázquez will have a tougher time second time around, with his principle challenges being improving the lacklustre level of education in Uruguay and combating insecurity, the main public concern, while keeping the economy on an even keel at a time when Argentina is teetering on the brink and Brazil is tottering.End of preview - This article contains approximately 1094 words.
