Development: On 25 January Venezuela’s vice-president, Jorge Arreaza, gave orders that two former regional presidents, Andrés Pastrana of Colombia (1998-2002) and Sebastián Piñera of Chile (2010-2014), should not be allowed to visit the imprisoned political leader Leopoldo López, who has been held for almost a year in solitary confinement in the Ramo Verde military prison outside Caracas.
