Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her People’s Partnership (PP) alliance won the May 2010 general election following the disastrous misjudgement by then-prime minister Patrick Manning and his People’s National Movement (PNM) to call an early election. The Persad-Bissessar government is now taking exactly the opposite approach to Manning and, following the recent witness-tampering scandal which has cost the attorney general his job, may delay holding a new poll until the final possible moment.
