GUATEMALA: Pérez Molina trumpets security gains

Last month Guatemala’s President Otto Pérez Molina delivered his penultimate state-of-the-nation address in which he flagged up progress vis-à-vis security – one of the three areas identified as priorities when his right-wing Partido Patriota (PP) administration assumed office in January 2012. Pérez Molina also claimed improvements in the other two areas – the economy and food security - although his claims regarding all three have been subject to question.
