BELIZE: Municipal election boost for ruling UDP

In March 2012, Belize’s centre-right United Democratic Party (UDP) won a second term in power when Prime Minister Dean Barrow successfully called an early election. The result was closer than Barrow would have liked, and showed some resurgence of support for the centre-left People’s United Party (PUP). Three years into the UDP’s second term, however, the latest municipal elections suggest that the UDP is once again in the ascendancy.
