President Juan Manuel Santos, the embattled leftist mayor of Bogotá, Gustavo Petro, politicians from (mainly leftist) parties, and a host of social organisations and victims’ rights groups were among some 300,000 people who participated in a ‘march for peace’ in Bogotá and other cities in Colombia on 9 April. On the same day Santos extended the suspension of air strikes against the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) for a second spell of 30 days. But on 15 April he ordered them to resume after a Farc attack in the south-western department of Cauca claimed the lives of 11 soldiers.
