MEXICO-US: Is tighter border control deterring illegal migrants?

Two events in early June chilled relations between Mexico and the US: a ground fire attack on a helicopter of US Customs and Border Protection, and the enactment of a law in Texas that adds another US$310m to that state’s ‘border security plan’. The latter comes as the number of Mexican-born illegal immigrants is reported down by more than 15% from its peak of 2007 ― which some argue is proof that tighter border security is yielding results.
