Mexico City regulates Uber and other crowdsourcing transport services

After two weeks of deliberations, on 15 July the Mexico City government (GDF) published a set of regulations for smartphone-based private-hire transport (taxi and ridesharing) schemes such as those offered by the US-based firm Uber and its competitors. Mexico City thus becomes the first city in the world to regulate these services. As such, the new model will be closely scrutinised by other cities, amid often-intense opposition by traditional taxicab drivers to Uber.
