Bad news on poverty

President Enrique Peña Nieto in late July recognised that his government’s social policy has been insufficient to reduce poverty levels. The president and other Mexican leaders have been digesting a newly released survey by the Consejo Nacional de Evaluación de la Política de Desarrollo Social (Coneval), according to which in the two years to 2014 the number of people living in poverty increased by 2m to 55.3m, or 46.2% of the total population.
