PARAGUAY: Of guerrillas, drug traffickers & collusion

The Ejército del Pueblo Paraguayo (EPP) guerrillas resurfaced in late August, making their presence noted at the President’s rural estate in the Chaco, blowing up a power pylon in San Pedro and (apparently) conducting a raid on a Mennonite colony in the same department. This took place against the backdrop of accusations by an opposition legislator of collusion between police officers and drug traffickers ― mirrored in another context the spokesman of the task force charged with fighting the EPP.
