Changing direction on soft drinks tax?

Tacked on unobtrusively to a miscellaneous finance bill approved on 19 October by a 423-33 vote in the federal chamber of deputies was a significant reduction in the tax on high-sugar soft drinks. The tax, set at one peso (US$0.06) per litre, was first introduced at the beginning of 2014, and at the time was hailed as a precedent-setting innovation by a wide range of food and health campaigners, both in Mexico and abroad.
