Testing times for the Dajabón bi-national border market

October has proved to be a difficult month for the bi-national border market held every Monday and Friday in the Dominican town of Dajabón, on the border with Haiti. Since the start of October, the market has been closed on three occasions as a result of a bilateral trade dispute and Haiti’s electoral process. This has negatively impacted the border community on both sides which relies on the market and the brisk bilateral trade associated with it to make a living.
