PERU-CHILE | Friction over new Peruvian border district. On 15 October the Peruvian congress approved the creation of a new district, La Yarada-Los Palos, in Tacna region bordering on Chile. The southwestern boundary of this district is Punto Concordia, on the coast of the Pacific, south of the point that marks the northern limit of Chile’s maritime boundary. This creates what the Peruvians have been calling a ‘terrestrial triangle’ of 37,610 square metres that faces a stretch of Chilean sea.
