CHILE: Calls for tougher response as attacks multiply in the south

October turned out to be the most violent month in the Mapuche heartland in almost three years. The government’s political opposition and business associations have been pressing for application of the antiterrorist law. The government has responded with the creation of a new security zone ― and has highlighted that not all the violence can be attributed to radical Mapuche militants.
