Local and international reporting on Venezuela over the last month seems to have verified two incontrovertible facts. One, that the Venezuelan economy is a mess – “the world’s worst economy this year” suggested CNN. And two, that in the 6 December congressional elections the opposition won a landslide victory, gaining a two-thirds majority.
